Skeet plays bass on Tudo Bem, Elixir and Wednesday Funk.
“Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Guitar, Drums: Born in Baltimore in 1956, Skeet has played with P-Funk since 1977. Prior to joining P-Funk, he played with local bands in Baltimore. Projects include recordings with the Firm (featuring Nas, Foxy Brown and AZ) and Dr. Dre.” (Source: Skeet’s private Facebook profile)
I met him probably around 2000 as the bass player of Maceo Parker. What I didn’t know by then is that he’s one of the important bass players of Parliament Funkadelic and other George Clinton related projects like Brides of Funkenstein, Parlet, Fred Wesley, Bernie Worrell, P-Funk Allstars etc…. thanks to Discogs and other sources.
Baltimore based Skeet joined Parliament Funkadelic in 1977. Vocalist Gary “Mudbone” Cooper, also from Baltimore and working for quite a while with P-Funk already, introduced and brought him to George Clinton. That’s where he also met Maceo Parker. Skeet had played in a local band called Uncle Remus before, together with drummer Dennis Chambers and saxophone player Greg Thomas who joined P-Funk later. All would become regular members of the band until at least mid-late 80’s.
He plays bass on many recordings (Check Discogs). A great old live recording together with Dennis Chambers is: P-Funk Allstars “Live at the Beverly Theater In Hollywood”. Nowadays, Skeet's still touring around the world with Maceo Parker…
So the first time we played the music from Royalty For Real wasn't in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, but in Bengaluru and Mumbai, all the way in India in 2023!Here you'll see me play Au Privave, Classy Cats and Royalty For Real, together with Timothy Banchet (piano), Marius Beets (bass) and Sven Rozier (drums).Au Privave is a well-known blues by Charlie Parker which I often like to start with, almost like a soundcheck tune. Although most of the time a soundcheck is done I found out it's a good idea to play a tune everybody of the band knows very well so we all can get used to the sound of the stage, the presence of the audience and it also gives the sound engineer the chance to adjust microphones last minute. During the soundcheck, the sound of the room is significantly different because of the lack of audience. All that flesh and clothes work a little bit like a totally empty room versus a room with furniture and carpets, if you know what I mean :-)Acoustics are so interesting and full of surprises.. Anyways.. hope you like it! - Skeet plays bass on Tudo Bem, Elixir and Wednesday Funk.“Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Guitar, Drums: Born in Baltimore in 1956, Skeet has played with P-Funk since 1977.
