One of my favourite singers, Charlie Wilson, with his band, The Gap Band. Unfortunately I've never seen him live yet. He has been playing twice at North Sea Jazz Festival I think but I had to perform myself during that weekend.. He is a singer I didn't know who he was in the past because of all his collaborations with other artists, Mint Condition, Snoop Dogg.. So when I heard albums from The Gap Band I finally got to know who he was and where he musically was coming from. His voice is on of the nicest and most recognizable in Funk and R&B. When you hear a really good singer ad-libbing and sounding a bit like Stevie Wonder but a bit more blunt and often using the sounds "owee", it's him :-)
One of the funkiest songs I know. Humpin'
This is one of my favourite tracks of this album. Also don't forget "Burn Rubber On Me"!
Just in time for International Women's Day, here's the first of a couple videos of Fred Wesley & The New JB's featuring Martha High.Think (About It) made famous by the recording of Lyn Collins, Martha always sang it with James Brown and Maceo Parker.Thank you Fred for having me on this great gig in Zurich, Switzerland! It was a pleasure.. and yeah you are right, for the connaisseurs of funk guitar, there's the one and only Bruno Speight! In the following videos the light is better and you'll see more of him, promised... stay tuned! - One of my favourite singers, Charlie Wilson, with his band, The Gap Band.
