Brainstorm was the band Belita Woods sang in before she joined George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic; in 1992 the band was called P-Funk All Stars. Brainstorm made 3 albums, "Stormin'" is the first. When siniging with Brainstorm, Belita has a significantly different voice from her period with P-Funk. I love both voices although her voice sounds brighter when she was young. I saw her a couple of times live and her phrasing and timing were just unique. Unfortunately she died way too early in 2012, by the age of only 63. I can hear her influence on fellow p-funk singer Kendra Foster, who was singing with her during the late 90's and early 00's. She's definitely one of the most underrated female singers in history and should be mentioned alongside other funk/soul diva's of her age..
Just in time for International Women's Day, here's the first of a couple videos of Fred Wesley & The New JB's featuring Martha High.Think (About It) made famous by the recording of Lyn Collins, Martha always sang it with James Brown and Maceo Parker.Thank you Fred for having me on this great gig in Zurich, Switzerland! It was a pleasure.. and yeah you are right, for the connaisseurs of funk guitar, there's the one and only Bruno Speight! In the following videos the light is better and you'll see more of him, promised... stay tuned! - Brainstorm was the band Belita Woods sang in before she joined George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic; in 1992 the band was called P-Funk All Stars.Brainstorm made 3 albums, Stormin' is the first.
