Vinyl Wednesday: CAMEO- WE ALL KNOW WHO WE ARE
"We All Know Who We Are" is the second album by the funk band
Cameo, released early in 1978. It's quite a rare album, first we had a broken copy, later we found a mint condition version in a record shop all the way in Paris.
Growing up in the 80's the only tune by Cameo I knew was "Word Up"; the song with the red jockstrap singer. As a kid I thought it had to be a strange gimmick and certainly not an established funk band who had many hits before. To be honest I still don't know why you would reduce yourself to a red jockstrap image. The lead singer, Larry Blackmon, is also an excellent drummer and producer. Currently they seem to be performing in
Las Vegas.
I hope they are coming soon to Amsterdam again.
