The video is an impression of last year's festival in the early afternoon. The whole morning it was stormy and rainy and it just had dried up. I was there early, you really could tell, it would be the time that people think at home: "Okay, the sun is slowly but surely making it through the clouds, let's get dressed and start biking.. where exactly was it again, how do we get there? And then, around the time I was playing, the first people came in, having coffee, walking around on the festival ground. I had to go to another gig afterwards, but I saw a lot of great pictures coming by, sunset with bands, campfire, dancing people. Lot's of both dj's and live music. The location is different of what you expect from Amsterdam, it's in Amsterdam Noord around Noorderlicht cafe/NDSM and you can take the (free) ferry from Amsterdam Central Station. Hope to see you there on 25-06-2016!
So the first time we played the music from Royalty For Real wasn't in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, but in Bengaluru and Mumbai, all the way in India in 2023!Here you'll see me play Au Privave, Classy Cats and Royalty For Real, together with Timothy Banchet (piano), Marius Beets (bass) and Sven Rozier (drums).Au Privave is a well-known blues by Charlie Parker which I often like to start with, almost like a soundcheck tune. Although most of the time a soundcheck is done I found out it's a good idea to play a tune everybody of the band knows very well so we all can get used to the sound of the stage, the presence of the audience and it also gives the sound engineer the chance to adjust microphones last minute. During the soundcheck, the sound of the room is significantly different because of the lack of audience. All that flesh and clothes work a little bit like a totally empty room versus a room with furniture and carpets, if you know what I mean :-)Acoustics are so interesting and full of surprises.. Anyways.. hope you like it! - Wicked Jazz Sounds just announced the line-up of the second edition of their own festival which was a big success last year.
