English translation:
The musical program of "Dark Horse" is characterized by groovy and funky sounds rooted in the traditional styles of 1960s bebop and 1970s fusion. With their top-notch quartet—comprising James Hurt (Fender Rhodes, piano, clavinet, organ), Gerald Cannon on bass, and Willie Jones III on drums—they present a modern and creative interpretation of contemporary jazz that nevertheless remains deeply grounded in tradition.
The album's eight tracks radiate a vibrant, almost spontaneous energy, with virtuosic solos highlighting the musicians' technical prowess. Particularly impressive is their interpretation of Charlie Parker's "Au Privave," in which the quartet pays wonderful homage to bebop, albeit not at the original tempo. Another highlight is "Kalunga Dance," whose driving Latin groove unfolds with captivating dynamism.
The vinyl version also impresses in terms of sound: The pressing quality is excellent and makes the listening experience perfect.

Amsterdam-based saxophonist Susanne Alt releases her 7th studio album. Recorded in New York with the same session members as her previous album Royalty for Real, the music is rooted in natural, groove-oriented compositions.

Performed together with top-class musicians, the album has a warm, immediate live feel. Melodically soulful and rhythmically driven—drawing from funk, Latin, and hip-hop—it strongly appeals to both jazz fans and groove lovers alike.

The album includes “Jazz Biotic,” “Dark Horse”, and the tribute-inspired “Maple Jam.” The title Dark Horse reflects the spirit of revealing unexpected potential and breaking new ground—marking this as a highly anticipated work in Alt’s evolving career.
